Alliance Française de Limerick is really proud to invite you to the screening of the French film “Les Indes Galantes” (with English subtitles). It will be our last event for the season 2021-2022 and probably our best choice this year. This documentary follows the creation of the opera “Les Indes Galantes”, written by Rameau in 1735, directed by Clement Cogitore who decided to join the production a group of dancers from hip hop, krumping, breaking, popping, and voguing, presented for the first time in Opera Bastille (Paris), in 2019. Huge event and great scandal, Clément Cogitore’s production of “Les Indes Galantes” revealed how difficult it is for urban cultures to be recognized by what Bourdieu would call the French cultural elite.
As this film has never been shown in Ireland, we would like as many people as possible to enjoy this great opportunity to talk about music, dance, and how far we can go in creation when different artists from different cultural backgrounds meet and work together.
